I began the very small paintings as experiments in light,
colour and technique back in 2009. Since then, they have
developed into three groups: White Bay/Industrial,
Rooftops, and Powerpoles (sometimes they overlap a little).

These are all either 5×7 or 6×6 inches in size,
oil on canvas unframed.

  • "The Mort Bay Ferry" 13x17cm, oil on canvas 2021. One of the best views on the Balmain peninsula, from here you get a panoramic view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge across to to the Waterview Wharf Workshops and Mort Bay. Stay awhile and you will the ferry come and go. SOLD 🔴
  • "A Balmain Corner" 15x15cm, oil on canvas 2021. Once there were about 185 pubs on the Balmain Peninsula. Most are still on their corners but many no longer pubs, except these two in lovely afternoon light. 🔴 SOLD

  • "Gelato Times" 2021. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. A bright Spring day always makes me think of Gelato. Maybe it's just the contrast after the greys of Winter but those pastel colours of "Bubblegum", "Berry" and "Passiona" have transfered to my palette for now! 🔴 SOLD
  • "The First Light of Spring" 2021. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. The weather is warming. The light is changing and everything looks brighter. Things are looking up! 🔴 SOLD
  • "Shapes & Angles" 2021. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. One of the best power poles on Darling Street! This is looking up from a whole new angle. This one may be a study for a larger work. 🔴 SOLD
  • "Looking through Trees" 2021. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. An afternoon glimpse of White Bay power station between a tree and a house in Rozelle. The sun catches one of the stacks making it bright orange. SOLD
  • "Shadow Blues" 2021. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. These old buildings on Darling Street, once ornate I think, have had many facade changes and now show their bald faces. They are blank canvases with some lovely shadows from the power poles. Many have undergone more changes of late, like this brown one. It's been repainted and now the rich colours are gone. SOLD
  • "Balmain Looking like Broken Hill" 2021. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. This is a favourite corner in Balmain because there is always something new to see here. Very late one afternoon this was like you were in an outback town, not on the Balmain peninsula! SOLD
  • "City View Over Mullens" 2021. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. Over the rooftops looking to the Anzac Bridge from Balmain. The big red terrace gives the impression of looking over at everything. SOLD
  • "The Rusty Green" 2021. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. Fabulous colours caught in the afternoon light! It's a rare sight on the peninsula now and this one is screaming to be replaced or repainted. I hope not soon. SOLD
  • "Lines & Stripes" 2021. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. Some lovely shapes near Booth Street offset by a striped canvas awning. It wasn't, but it looks like a hot and dusty day in summer. ON HOLD
  • "The Bakery" 2021. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. Once the main 'high street' on the peninsula, Evans Street was home to a little shopping precinct. The baker was very popular, the shop still stands proud on a corner just up the hill from the power station. It looks much like it did in 1900. SOLD
  • "Rooflines" 2020. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. Shapes play with colours in the light in the back streets. This is in Balmain. SOLD
  • "Terraces & Wires" 2020. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. The beautiful shapes in the sunshine just say "Balmain". SOLD
  • "Winter in Spring" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. Looking at the city and Barangaroo from Rowntree Street in Birchgrove.
  • "Above the Lines" 2021. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. Looking up past the rooftops on Mullens Street on a chilly winter afternoon. I love this one so if no one wants it... ! SOLD
  • "Three Four Six" 2021. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. This lovely little terrace on Darling Street is not often noticed but it's very beautiful hiding behind the tree that leaves some great shadows on it's walls. SOLD
  • "James Squire" 2020. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. A midday sun on Montague Street gave this terrace an unusual cool hue. James Squire, featured in the Town Hall Hotel bottle shop, was Australia's first brewer. Fitting, as the Town Hall served locals for more than 130 years. SOLD
  • "Beattie Evans & Beyond" 2021. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. A couple of crooked power poles, tin roofs, a chimney and a part of the city beyond. SOLD
  • "Smoke Haze" 2019. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. In spring as they burn off the bush to protect us in summer, the misty haze creates some interesting light. SOLD
  • "Pretty Peachy Pink" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. Those lovely pink buildings in Darling Street! SOLD
  • "In Our Backyard" 2021. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. Old cottages and new terraces still have the television antenna in common, but sometimes in the backyard the view of trees is replaced by... SOLD
  • "Pink & Blue Watching You" 2019. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. Some pastel colored buildings on Balmain's high street. SOLD
  • "Jane Street" 2021. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. Clean geometry and the light on the sign make the church tower look even more majestic against a clear blue sky. SOLD
  • "On Jane" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. I think of this church and the London as the 'gateway' to Jane Street. When you look closely, these are stunning buildings. This painting partners well with "London" but they are for sale separately. SOLD
  • "St Augustine's" 2020. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. Countless visitors have crossed the threshold here since 1907 and many changes have occured over the time, but the stunning bell tower is still an awesome landmark for Balmain and the city. SOLD
  • "Over Cockatoo Way" 2021. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. On a calm afternoon, this was just staring out at Cockatoo Island from beautiful Birchgrove. SOLD
  • "A Boat & Blues Point" 2020. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. Looking at Blues Point Tower and a very beautiful wooden yacht from Birchgrove. SOLD
  • "Cockatoo View" 2020. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. Looking across the bay at Cockatoo Island. It has a complex history - first the Eora People used it for fishing, hunting, and women’s ceremonial purposes, then it became a penal colony (still one of the best surviving examples of convict transportation and forced labour), and later it became a dockyard of the Royal Australian Navy.   • "Birchgrove" 2020. Oil on canvas. 13x15cm. From a quiet little secluded pocket in Birchgrove looking across at Cockatoo Island. It's hard to believe you are in the city here. SOLD
  • "Hotel Rozelle" 2019. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. Its use has long since changed buy the art deco details of the old hotel on Victoria Road still remain. SOLD
  • "Blue on Blue" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. Striking colours of this imposing corner terrace are fascinating in all kinds of light. SOLD
  • "One Way" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. On a corner on Darling Street, Balmain stands an unremarkable blue/grey building. But its plain face is the perfect canvas for shadow patterns, on any sunny afternoon, made by the power pole on the corner. SOLD
  • "Down the Hill on Darling Street" 2020. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. A fave Balmain view from the lights at Rowntree Street looking at the city. The Balmain peninsula stays the same, but the city gets bigger and looks closer every day. SOLD
  • "Looking on" 2018. Oil on canvas, 13x18cm. Watching a fast changing city from Rozelle. SOLD
  • "Big City" 2020. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. One of the most interesting (I am so over 'iconic'!) views of the city from the peninsula is from the top of the hill looking down Darling Street. Little Balmain is looking smaller and smaller. SOLD
  • "London" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. The old London Hotel has a great face and just then, the flag looked perfect! They do an amazing steak too! This partners well with "On Jane" but they are for sale separately. SOLD
  • "Dicks Corner" 2020. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. Looking up on the peninsula you still see many a power pole and a pub (or ex-pub) on a street corner. There were once 185 licensed functioning pubs on this little peninsula! SOLD
  • "Welcome" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. The Welcome Hotel facade on Evans Street makes a nice canvas for some interesting shadows on winter mornings. SOLD
  • "That Shop on Beattie" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. Possibly the very last 'convenience store' on the peninsula. In a state of neglect, but we will miss it when it's renovated. I will paint it again soon. SOLD.
  • "Pretty in Pink" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. A favourite on Darling Street, this one always looks like it's from somewhere in fairyland.I keep painting it over and over again! SOLD
  • "Balmain Bikes" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. A very bold graphic on Darling Street. Gone and under renovation but the sign remains. SOLD
  • "Balmain Summer" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. The smoky orange sky of December in 2019. There was horrendous heat, burning countryside and everything that went with it. But the sky was quite lovely in the beginning and, eerie as it was, gave everything a sort of 'glow'. SOLD
  • "Excelsior" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. Next door to the Welcome Hotel, the Excelsior Store was once part of the original commercial precinct that serviced the small community of Rozelle. SOLD
  • "Juliet with Fading Curtains" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. A cute balcony on Beattie Street with hanging flower pots and pink curtains. The shadows made it quite striking. SOLD
  • "Unchanged for Decades" 2019. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. The backlanes on the peninsula sometimes reveal a sense of times now gone. Here it's about those 1950s 'modern' pastel colours. SOLD
  • "The Lion" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. 'The Red Lion' now 'The Green Lion', this old lady is still going strong in Rozelle. SOLD
  • "No More Coke" 2019. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. This tiny old Rozelle shop with it's old signs was a treasure, then one day they painted the whole thing a neutral grey! SOLD
  • "Welcome II" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. The Welcome Hotel facade on Evans Street has a bald face but in the sunshine you see some beautiful patterns. SOLD

  • "Dusk on Darling I" 2019. Oil on canvas, 17x13cm. A perfect sunset on Darling Street. SOLD
  • "Mansfield Street V" 2020. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. I keep painting this view because it's one of the best views of the city from the peninsula! SOLD
  • "Rozelle Laneway" 2020. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. A very short hidden laneway off Darling Street in Rozelle. From here you see a nice view. SOLD
  • "Pointing Up" 2019. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. The shapes and colours against the blue summer sky create an interesting geometric pattern here. SOLD
  • "Anzac in Spring" 2019. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. The view from Rozelle on a bright day. SOLD
  • "Winter Light Looking North" 2019. Oil on canvas, 15x15cm. Late on a sunny winter afternoon when the sunsets are magical. This is Wise Street in Rozelle. SOLD.
  • "Ewell Afternoon" 2019. Oil on canvas, 13x17cm. Commission. A favourite view. This lovely old terrace stands proudly watching the changing city skyline at dusk.
  • "Autumn in Balmain" 2020. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. The trees turn beautiful rich reds and yellows along Evans Street on the Balmain peninsula. SOLD
  • "Afternoon Glow" 2019. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. Peeking through bushes and over rooftops at the Anzac Bridge late one afternoon! SOLD
  • "The Sacky on Sunday" 2020. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. The light on this day was so striking! It was very late on a clear Autumn afternoon and the wall was an amazing golden yellow colour. SOLD
  • "Little Trees" 2019. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. A pale yellow terrace basking in the western sun is a perfect place for little trees carefully balancing high on the window ledge. SOLD
  • "Lara's on Rowntree" 2020. Oil on canvas. 17x13cm. An unusual facade in a little tucked away group of shops. It was the green colour and the geometric shapes I liked here. And I used to have an Alfa! SOLD

  • "Waterview Wharf Workshops II" 2020. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. Sitting quietly on the Mort Bay waterfront, the workshops are increasingly becoming dwarfed by the fast growing city and Barangaroo. SOLD
  • "Balmain East" 2020. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. Right on the tip of land at the end of Darling Street by the wharf. It almost looks rural, but look right and see the enormous new buildings of Barangaroo in sharp contrast. ON HOLD
  • "Escape to Anzac" 2020. Oil on canvas. 15x15cm. Looking between some houses on Beattie Street you can still see a view despite the growing trees. SOLD

  • "Waterview Workshops IV" 2020. Oil on canvas. 13x17cm. This is number five! This view from Ballast Point and Mort Bay is a classic, with the cute little Workshops (actually they are not so small!) and Barangaroo behind is very popular. I will paint more versions of this in the new year. SOLD
