I began the very small paintings as experiments in light,
colour and technique back in 2009. Since then, they have
developed into three groups: White Bay/Industrial,
Rooftops, and Powerpoles (sometimes they overlap a little).

These are all either 5×7 or 6×6 inches in size,
oil on canvas unframed.

  • "The London Tree #2" 15x15cm. oil on canvas, 2024. Opposite the London Hotel in Balmain the big tree, with it's stunning twisted trunk, was a fixture in the landscape as you sit and sip a beer on the verandah. That was in summer, before some heavy rain soaked the ground in autumn and the roots couldn't cling on anymore. I miss this lovely tree that was so part of the London's iconic view. 🔴 SOLD
  • "The London Tree" 17x13cm. oil on canvas, 2024. Sitting on the verandah at the London in Balmain you can watch the traffic and the people walk past, but I loved looking at the big tree with it's stunning twisted trunk. This was in summer. After some heavy rain in autumn the ground couldn't hold the roots anymore and down it fell. I miss this lovely tree that was so part of the London's iconic view. 🔴 SOLD
  • "Corner Pubs" 15x15cm, oil on canvas 2023. Once there were about 185 pubs on the Balmain Peninsula. Most are still on their corners but many are no longer pubs. These two look stunning when the light catches them on (most) afternoons. 🔴 SOLD
  • "Autumn Light or Balmain Fire" 15x15cm. oil on canvas, 2024. Autumn sunsets make everything look amazing. The colours on this day actually looked like this, so wanted to call it 'Balmain Fire' but I didn't want to scare anybody! 🔴 SOLD
  • "Going Home" 17x13cm. oil on canvas, 2024. Late one afternoon in Rozelle, this is looking towards Birkenhead Point... then the cyclist came just as I took the picture, but I like him there, he created some nice shapes! 🔴 SOLD
  • "Afternoon Walk" 15x15cm. oil on canvas, 2024. Very late in the day and down the hill on a walk near Mort Bay. I love these shadows! 🔴 SOLD
  • "Summer at The Unity" 13x17cm, oil on canvas 2023. This was really in spring but the sunlight illuminated the leaves creating the feeling of a bright summer day. Happiness on canvas! 🔴 SOLD (Awaiting collection)
  • "Beer. Dick's. Balmain." 13x17cm, oil on canvas 2023. Just up the hill from the old power station, some things just never change - the pub, the beer, the working atmosphere. Hope we never lose that! 🔴 SOLD
  • "Over the back Fence" 15x15cm, oil on canvas 2023. This was all about the trees and the strong light. 🔴 SOLD
  • "Ewell see the Light" 17x13cm, oil on canvas 2023. The light on this corner, so high on the hill, is always interesting, and this is one of the most sweeping views of the city skyline. 🔴 SOLD
  • "Balmain Buddha" 17x13cm, oil on canvas 2023. This grand building sits quietly as a private residence on what once was the main street into Balmain. People have come and gone, but there was an interesting little Buddha sitting in the window. He is gone but I wonder where he went. 🔴 SOLD
  • "The Exchange" 15x15cm, oil on canvas 2023. As The Exchange undergoes a renovation (in a good way), we wait. But while we wait, there are tasty morsels and Italian wines to be had at Fabbrica downstairs. And to watch this great building slowly transform. 🔴 SOLD.
  • "Town Hall in the Afternoon" 17x13cm, oil on canvas 2022. Opened in 1879, the verandah was sadly scrapped when the Town Hall Hotel was renovated in 1930. After many changes over many years it closed. The building is actually very nice, and it will re-open in 2024 with a new team headed by acclaimed Italian chef Alessandro Pavoni who first worked here when he arrived in Australia over 20 years ago. “It’s super exciting. When I came to Sydney, I didn’t understand a word of English and this is where I met my wife. So, it connects with my heart, and I work a lot with my heart.” So cool! 🔴 SOLD
  • "Birds on Coulon Street" 17x13cm, oil on canvas 2023. Looking up at the powerlines against a very white chimney, the birds were sitting on an antena and deep in conversation. 🔴 SOLD
  • "Down by the Workshops" 13x17cm, oil on canvas 2023. Late one afternoon looking at some people looking at the Waterview Wharf Workshops and the boats at Mort Bay. It was quiet and peaceful, you could only hear birds in the distance. 🔴 SOLD
  • "That Building on Darling Street" 17x13cm, oil on canvas 2023. The higher you look, the more beautiful they are along the high street. Which one is this I wonder? 🔴 SOLD
  • "Winter Afternoon" 17x13cm, oil on canvas 2023. Walking home late in the day, the warm colours of autumn/winter are very striking. It's hard to place, this could even be in another country, or a country town somewhere. 🔴 SOLD
  • "Sitting High" 17x13cm. oil on canvas, 2024. Neat rows of cottages can often be seen on the peninsula. Timber or stone, most are renovated and polished now and treasured like prized jewels. We are so lucky here, the peninsula is prime location so close to the city, but it still feels like its a small village. Perfect really! 🔴 Private Commission.
